Highlight of my trip & how to go to Cabo da Roca
I've seen videos and photos of Cabo da Roca but it is nothing compared to being there yourself to see it for yourself. It was far better than what I expected. As we were there towards sunset, the sunlight shining on the whole place plus the colour really amazing. I was excited that we were stepping on the most western part of Europe continent.
It wasn't much of a chore to reach this place as it was one of the stops for bus 403 from Sintra to Cascais. The bus would pass by Cabo da Roca so we just alighted, toured the place and waited for the next bus to continue our way to Cascais.
After a day in Sintra (we had earlier in the day visited Pena Palace & Quinta da Regaleira in Sintra), we headed to Cabo da Roca taking the 6.10pm bus , reaching at 6.52pm. Bus journey around 42 minutes. Next bus arrives at Cabo da Roca at 7.47pm (which happens to be the last bus to Cascais) so we had about slightly less than an hour at Cabo da Roca. As the place is relatively small, one hour was more than enough for us to walk around and take loads of nice photos.
To get to Cabo da Roca, take bus 403 from the bus stop on the right of Sintra train station.
There is only one bus per hour - every '10 of the hour (refer to the attached pic). Last bus leaving Sintra for Cabo da Roca is at 7.10pm. Bus journey is around 42 minutes. Bus ticket costs 4.10 euro per person one way. You will know that you are near to Cabo da Roca when you see the lighthouse. Note that Cabo da Roca isn't the last bus stop for bus 403, the last stop is Cascais. So do alight when you see the lighthouse. Bus 403 leaves Cabo da Roca for Cascais every '47 of the hour (one bus per hour). The last timing for bus 403 from Cabo da Roca to Cascais is at 7.47pm. We took the 7.47pm last bus to reach Cascais at 8.45pm (1 hour journey). Bus ticket costs 3.25 euro per person.
There is another bus route that brings you from Cabo da Roca back to Sintra. Check out the bus schedule when you reach the bus stop at Cabo da Roca.
Tip : bring along a sweater or jacket. It was really cold & windy when we were there in the middle of summer in mid July.
Hope this helps.
